What should I pack?
The weather in the Andes can shift quickly. Here’s what we recommend:
- Warm layers (sweaters, fleece, jacket)
- Comfortable hiking shoes or boots
- Rain jacket or poncho
- Hat, gloves, and sunglasses
- Binoculars and camera (especially for birdwatchers!)
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
If you’re staying the night at Tambo Cóndor, don’t forget to bring:
- A headlamp or flashlight (our lighting is minimal to protect wildlife)
- Personal toiletries
- Any medications you may need
- Reusable water bottle
- We provide warm bedding, towels, and hot water in all our rooms.
What’s the weather like?
Tambo Cóndor is located in Ecuador’s high Andean paramo, where the weather can shift quickly—and climate change is making patterns less predictable.
Expect:
Daytime temperatures: 10–18°C (50–65°F)
Nighttime temperatures: 2–8°C (35–46°F) — sometimes colder with wind or rain
Rain and fog are common, especially during the rainy season (October to May). Some mornings begin clear, but others may be cloudy or wet—so it’s best to be prepared for all conditions.
We recommend dressing in layers, so you can adapt as temperatures change throughout the day.
What kind of wildlife might I see?
Tambo Cóndor is a hotspot for birdwatching, especially the majestic Andean condor. Guests often spot:
- Condors
- Carunculated caracaras
- Hummingbirds
- Deer, rabbits, and foxes
- And if you’re lucky: Spectacled bears — shy and solitary, they are sometimes seen on the mountain slopes, especially when feeding on achupayas or moving between feeding grounds.
Nature is always close here—bring your binoculars!

Do you offer meals?
Yes! Our kitchen serves authentic Ecuadorian dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. We offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with vegetarian and vegan options available.
Please let us know in advance if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions.
We are open most weekends and holidays, but we can get busy—especially with large groups—so we strongly recommend making a reservation.
During the week (Monday–Friday), we may be open depending on the season and availability. If you’re planning a mid-week visit, please call or message us in advance to confirm.
